The sweet pop of Sugar Jones returns to the capital at an all-ages show at the National Arts Centre on Sept. 24.
The five Sugar Jones gals Sahara MacDonald, Andrea Henry, Mirella DellAquila, Julie Crochetiere and Maiko Watson performed in Ottawa during this past Canada Day weekend. Australian boy band Human Nature is the opening act at the NAC concert. Tickets are $29.50, going on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, August 24 at the NAC box office and Ticketmaster. The members of Sugar Jones were chosen from over 4,000 hopefuls who appeared in Popstars, a Global TV reality show about the making of a girl pop group. Once picked, the ladies were given a recording contract. The group put out a self-titled CD, with the single Days Like That, which debuted at No. 1 on the Canadian pop charts. The members of Sugar Jones came up with the group's name themselves. It might have something to do with the sweet R&B/ pop sounds and, of course, their love of candy. In July, the group got props from NSYNC's J.C. Chasez, who invited the girls to tour with them. "If they want to come, by all means all they have to do is call us," Chasez said. Not surprisingly, Sugar Jones was thrilled to hear such kind words from one the world's hottest pop groups. "I am so flattered to hear that J.C. heard our song and likes it," Dell'Aquila said. So far, there's no word on when that tour would happen, but earlier this month in Toronto, Sugar Jones was among the opening acts for another big group, the Bootylicious trio that makes up super-group Destiny's Child. Currently, Sugar Jones has embarked on its own tour, playing numerous dates.
